Last updated: 2025 to reflect new members of the organization running Arena One and Arena Two, updates to section four regarding the schedule of events, and 2025 requirements to qualify for awards.
1 - ORGANIZATION
- The name of this Association is the RVR Junior, hereafter referred to as “RVRjr”.
- Board of Directors consists of:

2 - MEMBERSHIP and ENTRIES
- Single Participation fee is $40.00 per season.
- Family Participation fee is $80.00 per season. “Family” is defined as immediate nuclear/adopted family members. Any children 18 years of age or older will need to purchase their own membership.
- If your membership fee is not paid before the season begins or prior to the first rodeo you enter, you will not earn points for that rodeo.
- Non-Members may compete in the RVRjr jackpot for a $10.00 secretary fee per contestant, per jackpot. A person or family may decide to purchase the Single or Family Participation Fee after competing as non-members mid-season, but will not be given points retroactively for previous jackpots attended.
- Fees must be paid in full prior to and attend 2⁄3 's of the jackpots/rodeos to be eligible for year-end award. This requirement may be adjusted if jackpots/rodeos are cancelled during the season.
- Single or Family Participation Fees must be renewed at the beginning of each rodeo season.
- Late Entries will carry a $100 fee, these entries will be cut off at 5:00pm on Friday Events and 8:00am on Saturday. You must enter in the Arena #1 Timershack, and special accommodations with contestant order in event will be taken on a case by case basis.
3 – HARDSHIP
- Should a horse become incapacitated, the member may substitute with another horse. Incapacitated is defined as sick or injured to the extent the horse cannot compete or is deceased. Claiming horse hardship will result in the incapacitated horse not returning to compete in RVRjr for the remainder of the rodeo season.
- The points earned on the previous horse shall then be added to the new horse’s earned points.
- Once a horse has been deemed incapacitated, points can no longer be accrued on that horse until the next rodeo season.
- If any other case arises of hardship to a member or a horse, each will be referred to the Board of Directors for disposition.
4 - SCHEDULED EVENTS
Events (subject to change based on weather and availability):
Entry books close at 11:59 PM Thursday night prior to the rodeo.
A $100 late fee will be added to any late entries after 11:59 Thursday
NO entries will be accepted after 1 hour prior to start time.

5 - PAYOFF/POINT
- Payout will be made to as many places as possible where the lowest place receives their entry fee back for that particular event.
- Event Payout after club/event deductions, based upon the number of entrants in each event/division:
- 1st – 100%
- 1st – 60% | 2nd – 40%
- 1st – 50% | 2nd – 30% | 3rd – 20%
- 1st – 40% | 2nd – 30% | 3rd – 20% | 4th – 10%
- 1st – 30% | 2nd – 25% | 3rd – 20% | 4th – 15% | 5th – 10%
- Division Events -
- Barrel Racing:
- 25% of entry fees will be held for year-end awards/club expenses.
- Payout will be spread equally across all divisions in that particular event.
- Barrels: Points are awarded to a horse and rider combination in this event. Due to the opportunity that a single rider can enter on two different horses. A single horse and rider team may earn points in multiple divisions over the course of the year. Year-end awards will be given to the horse and rider combination based on the total points accumulated in each division. To be eligible, the horse and rider combination must compete in at least two-thirds of the scheduled events.
- Pole Bending:
- 25% of entry fees will be held for year-end awards/club expenses.
- Payout will be spread equally across all divisions in that particular event.
- Poles: Single Entry event, Points are awarded to the rider only. Due to the opportunity of a rider entry being capt at a single entry. A single rider may earn points in multiple divisions over the course of the year. Year-end awards will be given to the rider based on the total points accumulated in each division. To be eligible, the horse and rider combination must compete in at least two-thirds of the scheduled events.
- Barrel Racing:
- Goat Events – Goat Tag, Goat Tying:
- 25% of entry fees will be held for year-end awards/club expenses.
- Points are awarded to the rider only. Due to the opportunity of a rider entry being capt at a single entry. A single rider may earn points over the course of the year. Year-end awards will be given to the rider based on the total points accumulated in each division. To be eligible, the horse and rider combination must compete in at least two-thirds of the scheduled events.
- Roping & Riding Events:
- 25% will be held for all Roping/Riding Events as a stock fee, unless contractor requests otherwise
- 10% will be held for year-end awards/club expenses.
- Single Entry events (Breakaway, Calf Roping, and all Riding Events) Points are awarded to the rider only. Due to the opportunity of a rider entry being capt at a single entry. A single rider may earn points over the course of the year. Year-end awards will be given to the rider based on the total points accumulated in each division. To be eligible, the horse and rider combination must compete in at least two-thirds of the scheduled events.
- Team Roping: Points are awarded to the rider only. Due to the opportunity that all riders can enter twice. A single rider may earn points over the course of the year. A rider has the opportunity to earn points twice each rodeo in this event. Year-end awards will be given to the rider based on the total points accumulated in each division. To be eligible, the horse and rider combination must compete in at least two-thirds of the scheduled events.
- Points awarded as follows:
- 1st = 9 points.
- 2nd = 7 points.
- 3rd = 5 points.
- 4th = 3 points.
- 5th = 1 point.
- Only participating members that receive a qualified time will earn points in any event.
- Membership forms and payment must be signed and paid prior to the start of the rodeo for points to be earned. If payment and form are not completed until after the rodeo points will not be awarded for that day but you are eligible for earning points at the rodeo after the venmo time stamped date.
- Non-members are not eligible to earn points.
6 - YEAR-END AWARDS
- To qualify for year-end awards, horse and rider combinations must attend at least two-thirds (⅔) of the scheduled events. This means the rider must personally attend enough events to qualify, and they must also compete on the same horse the required number of times in order to be eligible for awards in Barrel Racing. This attendance requirement may be adjusted if jackpots or rodeos are canceled during the season.
- Ties in all divisions will be resolved as follows:

- 1st Place Tie: An additional buckle will be ordered.
- 2nd–4th Place Tie: The tie will be broken based on the number of events attended by the horse and rider combination.
- If attendance is also tied, the winner will be determined by a best-of-three Rock-Paper-Scissors game.
- Those not winning the tiebreaker will wait for their tied prize to be ordered.
- If attendance is also tied, the winner will be determined by a best-of-three Rock-Paper-Scissors game.
- Year-end awards will be given in Barrels and Poles 1st-4th place to all qualifying members, if money is available, additional places will be awarded.
- Year-end awards will be given in the Goat Events, 1st-2nd participant to all qualifying members if money is available, additional places will be awarded.
- Year-end awards will be given in the Roping Events, 1st-2nd participant to all qualifying members if money is available, additional places will be awarded.
- Year-end awards for the Lil’ Squirts. Parents who would like their child to receive the year-end buckle must pay a $75.00 fee by 4th Jackpot of the season.
- If money is available 1st place speed events and 1st place roping events will receive jackets
- If money is available more awards will be considered
- Year-end awards for Riding Events will not be provided in the 2025 season.
7 - EVENTS
All age Group placement will be based upon the age of the member as of January 1st of the rodeo season.
- Lil’ Squirt’s Obstacle Course
- Lil’ Squirts - 6 years old and under (led)
- The Lil’ Squirt’s Obstacle Course will be the first event held at Jackpots.
- The Obstacle Course consists of a small Barrel pattern, a three-pole Pole Bending pattern, and Goat Ribbon Pull.
- An adult (18 years or older) MUST lead the horse.
- Under no circumstance shall the lil’ squirt rider control the horse by him/her-self. (Should this occur, the participant will be disqualified, and not be eligible for the year-end prizes)
- Contestants will receive a prize at the exit gate upon completion of the course
- Lil’ Squirts - 6 years old and under (led)
- Division Events
- Barrel Racing Pattern Specifications:
- This event is open to age groups for all boys, girls, ladies and men.
- The contestant may start on either the right or the left barrel.
- If starting at the right barrel, there will be one right turn and two left turns around the barrels.
- If starting at the left barrel, there will be one left turn and two right turns around the barrels.
- Barrels will be at least 15 feet from the fence and the start/finish line should not be less than 15 feet from the end of the arena.
- The recommended distance by the AQHA rulebook is 20 yards between barrel one and two and 35 yards between barrels two and three. However, the distance will be set according to the size of the arena. The arena director and crew will set up the Barrel Racing pattern based upon existing conditions of the arena the day of the event.
- Penalties – Knocking over any barrel will result in a no-time. There will be a disqualification for breaking the pattern. The Arena Director’s decision is final.
- Youth 5D Barrel Racing
- Entry fee will be $15.00 per run.
- This event is open to girls and boys ages 15 years old and under.
- The event will consist of five divisions.
- All contestants will run as a total group.
- The fastest time will decide the break of the divisions.
- Each contestant may enter two horses.
- Divisions will be separated:
- Assume that (fastest time ran) = f
- 1D = f through f + 1.999 seconds
- 2D = f + 2 seconds through f + 4.999 seconds
- 3D = f + 5 seconds through f + 8.999 seconds
- 4D = f + 9 seconds through f + 13.999 seconds
- 5D = f + 14 seconds through the slowest time
- If the horse refuses to enter the arena at the gate after 2 minute period of time, the rider will be disqualified and receive a no-time.
- Youth 5D Barrel Racing
- Barrel Racing Pattern Specifications:
- Open 3D Barrel Racing

- Entry fee will be $30.00 per run.
- The event will consist of four divisions.
- All contestants will run as a total group.
- The fastest time will decide the break of the divisions.
- Each contestant may enter two horses.
- Each division will be separated by one second.
- Assume that (fastest time ran) = f
- 1D = f through f + 0.999 seconds
- 2D = f + 1 second through f + 1.999 seconds
- 3D = f + 2 seconds through the slowest time
- If the horse refuses to enter the arena at the gate after a 2 minute period of time, the rider will be disqualified and receive a no-time.
- Pole Bending Pattern Specifications:
- This event is open to age groups for all boys, girls, ladies and men.
- The distance from the starting line to the first pole shall be twenty-one feet. Spacing between the other 5 poles shall also be twenty-one feet. However, the distance shall be set according to the size of the arena. The arena director and crew will set up the Pole Bending pattern based upon existing conditions of the arena the day of the event.
- Penalties - Knocking over any pole will result in a no-time. There will be a disqualification for breaking the pattern. The Arena Director’s decision is final.
- Youth 5D Pole Bending
- Entry fee will be $15.00 per run.
- This event is open to girls and boys ages 15 years old and under.
- The event will consist of five divisions.
- All contestants will run as a total group.
- The fastest time will decide the break of the divisions.
- Each contestant may enter 1 horse.
- Divisions will be separated:
- Assume that (fastest time ran) = f
- 1D = f through f + 1.999 seconds
- 2D = f + 2 seconds through f + 4.999 seconds
- 3D = f + 5 seconds through f + 8.999 seconds
- 4D = f + 9 seconds through f + 13.999 seconds
- 5D = f + 14 seconds through the slowest time
- If the horse refuses to enter the arena at the gate after a 2 minute period of time, the rider will be disqualified and receive a no-time.
- Youth 5D Pole Bending
Goat Events
- Goat Ribbon Pull

- Entry fee will be $10.00
- This event is open to ages 8 years and under.
- The goat will be staked out in a designated spot in the arena. The contestant must ride up to the goat, dismount (assisted if necessary), and remove the ribbon (or a piece of ribbon) from the goat’s tail.
- Penalties - If the horse comes in contact with the goat or the rope the contestant will be disqualified. The Arena Director’s decision is final
- The arena director and crew will set up the Goat pattern based upon existing conditions of the arena the day of the event.
- If the horse refuses to enter the arena at the gate after a 2 minute period of time, the rider will be disqualified and receive a no-time.
- Goat Tying

- Entry fee will be $15.00
- This event will be split into two age groups if we have less than 5 entrees in each division or divisions will compete together.
- 9 - 11 years old
- 12 – 15 years old
- There will be a time limit of 45 seconds.
- The goats will be staked out in a designated spot in the arena. The contestant must ride up to the goat, dismount, throw the goat by hand and cross and tie any three feet. The tie must hold until passed on by the flag judge and the contestant must not touch the goat after giving the finish signal and until the judge has examined the tie. If the tie comes loose or the goat gets to his feet before the tie has been ruled a fair one, the contestant will be disqualified.
- A leather or rope string must be used to tie the goat. Bailing wire cannot be used. The goat must be staked solid with 10ft length in rope. The goat must remain tied for 6 seconds.
- Penalties - If the horse comes in contact with the goat or the rope, the contestant will be disqualified. The contestant will be disqualified if he/she touches the goat after it has been tied or before the flagman gives the signal that it is okay to remove their rope. The Arena Director’s decision is final
- The arena director and crew will set up the Goat pattern based upon existing conditions of the arena the day of the event.
Roping Events
- Breakaway
- Entry fee is $15.00 If there is less than 4 youth in a division- the divisions will be run together.
- This event is open to boys and girls ages in two age groups.
- 11 – and under years old
- 12 – 15 years old
- Roper may start from either side of the box. The time will start when the barrier breaks and releases the calf. If a barrier is not available, the Arena Director will arrange for Starting Flagman. The time stops when the flagman signals that the rope broke away from the saddle horn. The loop must pass over the calf’s head and draw up on some part of the calf’s body as it releases.
- Time limit 45 seconds.
- Penalties - The Arena Director’s decision is final
- A 10 second penalty will occur if the contestant beats the out calf out, causing the barrier to be broken.
- If the loop does not pass over the calf’s head it will result in a disqualification.
- The contestant breaks the rope away from the saddle before the calf does, it will result in a disqualification.
- Team Roping Junior or Senior with ADULT (16 and up)
- Entry fee is $15.00 per run
- Each contestant may enter two times.
- This event is open to boys and girls ages in two age groups.
- 11 – and under years old - Junior
- 12 – 15 years old - Senior
- If there is less than 4 youth in a division- the divisions will be run together.
- In Team Roping, the header and heeler will start from the back of their respective boxes. The header will not be allowed to rope the steer until it’s head passes the barrel positioned in the arena placed by the Arena Director.
- There are 3 legal head catches; Slick horns, half-head (roping one horn and around the neck), and around the neck. Bridle catches or any crossed ropes will result in a disqualification.
- Legal heel catches will be any catch behind the shoulders or one or two legs as long as the loop goes on one of the heels.
- Time will start when the steer’s head crosses the designated line and will end when the field flagman signals time.
- Time limit 45 seconds.
- Penalties - If a contestant ropes a front leg, results in disqualification. A figure eight around the horns, results in disqualification. Hickey the horns, result is disqualification. If either contestant’s rope is tied on, the result is disqualification. The Arena Director’s decision is final
Riding Events
- Mutton Busting (Sheep Riding)
- Children will participate in the order they are announced. If the child changes their mind or chooses not to ride, they will be scratched and no refunds given after a reasonable amount of time has been allotted for the rider to mount the sheep.
- The age group is six years and under.
- Weight limit of 75 pounds and under will be enforced.
- All participants must wear protective headgear, your own or borrowed, no exceptions.
- One parent or guardian will be allowed into the arena with a participant.
- All participants and parents or guardians will exit the arena after the participant rides.
- Participants must ride for six seconds to receive a qualified ride.
- Rides will be judged by time only if no qualified rides are made.
- Decisions of the field judges and The Arena Director’s decision is final.
- Calf Riding
- Children will participate in the order they are announced. If the child changes their mind or chooses not to ride, they will be scratched and no refunds given after a reasonable amount of time has been allotted for the rider to mount the Calf.
- The age group is seven years to nine years old.
- All participants must wear protective headgear, your own or borrowed, no exceptions.
- One parent or guardian will be allowed into the arena with a participant.
- All participants and parents or guardians will exit the arena after the participant rides.
- Participants must ride for six seconds to receive a qualified ride.
- Rides will be judged by time only if no qualified rides are made.
- Decisions of the field judges and The Arena Director’s decision is final.
- Steer Riding
- Children will participate in the order they are announced. If the child changes their mind or chooses not to ride, they will be scratched and no refunds given after a reasonable amount of time has been allotted for the rider to mount the Steer.
- The age group is 10 years to 12 years old.
- All participants must wear protective headgear, your own or borrowed, no exceptions.
- One parent or guardian will be allowed into the arena with a participant.
- All participants and parents or guardians will exit the arena after the participant rides.
- Participants must ride for six seconds to receive a qualified ride.
- Rides will be judged by time only if no qualified rides are made.
- Decisions of the field judges and The Arena Director’s decision is final.
- Mini Bull Riding
- Children will participate in the order they are announced. If the child changes their mind or chooses not to ride, they will be scratched and no refunds given after a reasonable amount of time has been allotted for the rider to mount the Mini Bull.
- The age group is 8 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under.
- All participants must wear protective headgear, your own or borrowed, no exceptions.
- One parent or guardian will be allowed into the arena with a participant.
- All participants and parents or guardians will exit the arena after the participant rides.
- Participants must ride for six or eight seconds (to be determined at the Rodeo) to receive a qualified ride.
- Rides will be judged by time only if no qualified rides are made.
- Decisions of the field judges and The Arena Director’s decision is final.
8 - QUESTIONS THAT ARISE DURING A RVRJr EVENT
- The Arena Director will handle any event rule clarification that may arise during an RVRjr event. The Arena Director’s decision is final.
- Anything surpassing event regulations must be addressed to the Board of Directors for consideration.
- Any major changes will be decided by the Board of Directors before the beginning of the next rodeo season.
